The artistic collaboration between textile artist Inga Liksaite and animation artist Claudia Rohrmoser evolved from their common idea to use a sewing machine as a tool for drawing. Inga's expertise in sewing seemed to be the perfect match to Claudia's animation skills. Their short movies and installations reflect on motion pictures ("In The Mood For") and describe the circulating process of transforming different media sources into movement and from there trace fragments back to stitched stills hanging on the wall (''Redux'').
In the installation REDUX the movie "in The Mood for Love" by Wong Kar-Wai is remixed, deconstructed and regenerated in an analytic process: The pictures run through several stages of image analysis and recalculation. In the first part the short movie "In The Mood For…" shows the protagonists connected by a stitched line. This line acts as the artist' comment on the mood between the lovers, dancing with their cigarette smoke and eventually turning into rain.
As a second step "redux/circulation" takes the idea of a remix one step ahead: One frame of the short movie is scaled up and split into several textile tiles, stitched by a digital sewing machine. Those patterned plates are sent into a self organized computer process, where new connection lines "grow" between the cross-stitches. In the Installation the computer generated patterns as well as the textile plates are opposed to the original short movie.
