Dear Friends,
As many of you know, I am the volunteer Executive Director of the Northern California Youth Leadership Seminar (“NCYLS”), a non-profit entity that provides a free leadership seminar to Northern California sophomores and a develops a community of future leaders. I've proudly been involved with NCYLS since attending the conference as a sophomore in 2004.
In full disclosure, I'm asking you to help support NCYLS. The organization and three-day leadership seminar is organized by volunteers and funded by personal donations and grants. The 2012 seminar is being held at Menlo College on May 25-27, and we have more than 140 students attending (our best attendance yet!).
We invite every northern California high school (public, private, charter, etc.) to send one student to the seminar at no cost to the student or the school. By the end the conference, the students have developed a list of attainable goals and accepted a challenge to complete 100 hours of community service the following year. Most of the volunteers at the seminar are also alumni to the program who continue to donate their time to NCYLS.
Until 2003, NCYLS was the local chapter of a national youth leadership program (HOBY), but when HOBY started charging students, NCYLS broke away from it to ensure the seminar continued to be free to students. I invite and encourage you to visit the NCYLS website at
http://californialeaders.org for more information.
Please donate what you can -- no donation is too small, even the cost of your next latte ($5) is welcomed, and it's a tax write-off.
