Lust for Life
Historically humans have documented experience through creative narratives, story telling, and through religious doctrine or complex mythological tales. Many of these epic adventures have similar threads woven by archetypal characters like the hero/saint or the villain/demon. These stories like many we tell today, are guidelines for understanding certain truths about the world.
In Helen Bayly's Artwork she address the truth about humanity through common mythological or religious figures, and she adapts them to modern situations. By using pieces of mythological imagery, Bayly borrows the heightened drama of eternal damnation or ecstasy, and filters it through her own perspective influenced by youth culture, chemical drug experiences and modern scientific understanding. Through Bayly's Art, she rewrites classical relationships to the human existence with a contemporary atmosphere.
