Miller is the co-founder and executive director of the Sunlight Foundation, a Washington-based, non-partisan non-profit dedicated to using the power of the Internet to catalyze greater government openness and transparency. She is the founder of two other prominent Washington-based organizations in the field of money and politics -- the Center for Responsive Politics and Public Campaign -- and a nationally recognized expert on transparency and the influence of money in politics. Her experience as a Washington advocate for more than 35 years spans the worlds of non-profit advocacy, grassroots activism and journalism. About Tom Steinberg Tom Steinberg is the founder and director of mySociety, an international non-profit group which aims to help people become more powerful in the civic and democratic parts of their lives, through digital means. mySociety runs the popular UK transparency websites TheyWorkForYou and WhatDoTheyKnow, and problem fixing sites FixMyStreet and FixMyTransport. It also builds open source software to enable international re-use of mySociety’s projects. Outside of mySociety, Tom is frequently asked by governments to help formulate policy advice relating to digital issues. In 2007 he co-authored the The Power of Information Review with Ed Mayo and the Strategy Unit, and is now a member of the UK government’s Public Sector Transparency Board. About CfA Salons This event is the kickoff of the CfA Salon Speaker Series. Every month, Code for America will invite thought leaders from government and technology from around the world to share their thoughts and vision for where we are and where we're heading as a society. Topics will range, as will the formats. Yet, each event promises to be a thought-provoking, intimate, and fun discussion. Doors open to public at 6:00, and the program begins at 6:30, followed by a casual reception. Tickets We charge $15 per ticket to cover our costs for the event and offer light snacks, beer, and wine. Tickets are considered tax-deductible donations to Code for America, a 501(c)(3).
