I am kicking off the G+ worldwide Anniversary Bay Area Photowalks with an early morning sunrise walk in a lesser known area of town. Please read carefully the Meeting Point Has been changed to WARM WATER COVE. Unfortunately Heron's Head remains closed for renovation (it was meant to have reopened by now, but it looks like there are delays). Our new starting point has certain advantages anyway, and it means we can walk in a loop returning more easily to our vehicles and public transport.

5.15-5.30 AM meet at Warm Water Cove Park entrance.

Parking right outside the park (it's a dead end at the park with space for a handful of cars), or on 24th, Michigan or Illinois streets close by.

5.51AM Sunrise: Make sure you are ready and set up with your tripods if you have them, for the sunrise shot! Warm Water Cove has a resident sculptor Porfirio Vasquez, he is homeless, but creates art pieces you will see in the park. If you take photographs of them, there is no requirement to tip, but he does appreciate it if you do and might bend your ear if you don't.

6.20AM Start Walking. I mapped the route using GPS earlier today. You can check it out here: http://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/view/106159325 The GPS is slightly wobbly but you get the idea. This walk will be approximately 4.2 miles long and totally flat! Yay for no hills. We will see all manner of things on this walk. The photo montage on this post shows actual photos I took on this exact same walk this morning and should give you an idea of what you might expect. There will be everything from flowers to birds, to water, to boats, to urban decay, to rail roads to industrial buildings. Truly something for everyone. I also discovered a park I previously had no knowledge of and it's pretty cool.


9.30 AM Those who want to can head to The Ramp for Breakfast. It's a short 2 minute drive. If we happen to finish before 9.30AM we can also visit Pier 70 on our way to breakfast. Or if people are interested we can visit afterward. I am not going to arrange reservations, but figure if we get to the Ramp at 9.30, when it opens we have a pretty good chance of getting a large group seated, even if we aren't all at the same table. http://www.theramprestaurant.com/

What to Bring
A camera - any type of camera you desire: Phone camera, film camera, point and shoot or DSLR - all cameras are welcome. A tripod and filters if you have them and think you might need them.

Wear good walking shoes - this is a 4 mile walk.

Layers - so you can peel off if you get hot, or layer up if you feel chilly.

Sunscreen - you never know!

A small bottle of water and an empty bladder. (We won't be passing by any convenient facilities on our route, although there may be some bushes if you are desperate)

An energy bar - to keep you energized until breakfast time if you think you'll need one.

Cash for breakfast if you are joining us for that. I think they accept cards, but with large groups, cash is always much easier.
