443 Rhinos m killed in South Africa in 2011 alone, far surpassing the already depressing total of 333 in 2010. This year, 199 rhinos have already been poached. Rhinos are on the verge of extinction with some subspecies already extinct. The end of 2011 saw an increase in awareness for this more than worthy cause, sadly it took the deaths of 443 rhinos for the country to sit up and take notice.
With that in mind the “Rocking for Rhinos” team wants to create awareness, and to raise funds for the Higgins project by hosting a Rock concert at Hillcrest Wine Estate on Saturday 5th of May and a more Blues concert on Sunday 6th May, for about 2000 people.
The concert is aimed at everyone with a heart and all proceeds thereof will go to the rehabilitation of a male rhino named Higgins. Higgins lost 80% of his eyesight in a poaching attack at Fairy Glen Reserve near Cape Town.
The event will be named “Rocking For Rhinos” and the team has pledged to make it an annual event with a different recipient each year.
Full Band line-up to follow soon !!!!! 14 Bands in total. So far, this is it !!!!
Thanks to all the Bands who offered to play. Sorry, but there are only so many hours in a day and we had to make cuts. Please support the day and you will be considered at the next event. Thank You all, from the Rocking for Rhinos team.
