Keep Six Exhibits is excited to announce the much anticipated, BLOCKS T.O., an inaugural event that challenges participants to uncover histories framed by old bits of Toronto that have been inhabited for generations.
On Saturday June 16, up to 50 pairs of participants will set out from the historic John Street Round House to find locations in the city, armed only with archival photos as clues, and a camera. The rules are simple, find the spot and take a picture as close to the original as possible, and no traveling by car. Points are accumulated for difficulty. The finish line is the Gladstone Hotel for a reception with the day’s images as centerpiece.
“I felt it important not just to know these buildings, corners and fixtures exist, but to go out and explore what inhabits the past and see who's using the long-standing blocks of our city.” In coming up with the event as a fun way to bring old buildings into focus, the resident of Kensington Market and Toronto’s west-end arts community says he is “thinking of family, friends and neighbours across the city, and especially kids” as participants.
Judges will decide what teams were best able to capture and reflect the past. These include:
•Josh Fullan of University of Toronto Schools, Jane’s Walk and Maximum City;
•Yvonne Bambrick, Photographer and Coordinator of Kensington Market and Forest Hill BIAs;
•Derek Flack, Editor of BlogTO
•Michael Awad, Artist and Photographer

Closing location: 6 – 10 pm, Gladstone Hotel, 1214 Queen Street West
