Mandarin Chinese is the lingua franca of Mainland China and Greater China, which includes Hong Kong and Taiwan. Mandarin is also widely spoken in Singapore and in overseas Chinese communities throughout Southeast Asia, as well as in the Chinese diaspora throughout the rest of the world -- including among the Chinese immigrant and expatriate communities in Silicon Valley and the San Francisco Bay Area.

Mandarin Chinese is arguably the world's most spoken language -- numerically speaking.

Silicon Valley entrepreneurs with global ambitions are learning Mandarin in growing numbers.

 

This meetup will introduce attendees to basic conversational Mandarin for business situations. There will also be some introduction to cultural protocols to be aware of when doing business in China.

This event is geared towards entrepreneurs with little or no experience speaking Mandarin.

 

About the Instructor:

 

Lucy Cheng was born and raised in China and attended boarding schools where dance, music and drama were part of her everyday life.  She became fascinated by learning English, German and Japanese as a child.  Lucy studied language at Beijing University.  She has tutored the cousin of the current president of Taiwan  and received tutoring job offers from Julio Iglesias.

Lucy is a one of a kind Chinese Mandarin teacher.  She's eccentric, creative, unique, and entertaining-- an artist/musician type.

Lucy teaches from the heart and out of love and passion for teaching. She can show entrepreneurs how easy it is to learn Mandarin.

 

Some important points about our instructor:

-Studied language at Beijing University, considered to be the most prestigious university in China.

-Native speaker of Mandarin

-Has lived in the U.S. for over 25 years

-Has experience teaching Mandarin to students of various backgrounds

-Has a background as an entrepreneur

-Extremely patient, encouraging,  and understanding

 

The instructor is also available for private tutoring sessions for both individuals and small groups - live or virtual.
