After a one month hiatus Slamalamadingdong is back with programs, events and features ready to catapult the community into the inspired Alpha Wave frequencies known as the Love Swamp!
We return with an Open Slam featuring the daring, the fiery, the original Melbourne’s own Maxine Beneba Clarke. Maxine Beneba Clarke is a West Indian-Australian poet and writer. Her fiction, essays and poetry have been widely published, including in the Big Issue, the Age, Harvest, Overland, Page Seventeen and Going Down Swinging. Her work has featured on stages and airways across Australia. Her latest poetry publication is 'Gil Scott Heron is on Parole' (Picaro Press, 2010). She is the current poetry editor of Audio Overland, and Social Alternatives, and her poetry blog slamup.blogspot.com is ranked in Australia's Top 50 Writing blogs.
In addition we proudly bring a group of talented and established musicians and poets together in a preview of August’s new platform called “THE JAM SLAM” in which words and music collide onstage in the slam format, with the help of Candice Monique, (Vocalist and member of hip-hop group Carte Blanche) Sean M Whelan, (Writer and Poet working with musicians The Interim Lovers and producer Isnod) and Tariro Mavondo, (Poet, Actor, Still Waters Story Telling Collective and Slamalamadingdong Co-Curator.) Come and see the Poet’s sing-- this month at Slamalamadingdong. Registration for the 7-slot slam starts at 8pm sharp! Show starts at 8:30pm.
