Hedwig, the front singer and would-be glam-rock star from East Germany, undergoes a botched gender-change operation in order to escape from the Soviet bloc, only to watch the Berlin Wall come down on TV after being abandoned in a trailer park in middle America. Hedwig gets involved with Tommy, an adolescent boy who steals her songs and becomes a stadium-filling musical act. Suffering from a broken heart and a lust for revenge, she follows Tommy's tour, playing with her band (the Angry Inch) at tacky theme restaurants.
"Try and tear me down"
Under the direction of Nick A. Olivero, this cult musical gets a radical face-lift. 12 actors share the title role highlighting the multiple sides of Hedwig throughout her journey of self-discovery of sexual identity and acceptance.

In-House Special DJ Performance:
Arrive 45 minutes before the show (Except for Friday June 29th) as our in-house DJ, PDPL, provides audio intoxicants to get the party started and inspire total amnesia of social propriety. He's turning the Boxcar Playhouse into a rocking club, and this club has everything: rock, glam rock, drag queens, New York punks, Talking Heads, Freddie Mercury, David Bowie, David Bowie's Unit as featured in The Labyrinth, Belinda Carlisle, Miami hoes…and as if that weren't enough, we're turning the bass up to 12 and won't quit until the cops show up or somebody gets pregnant. Come early for the preparty, let Hedwig put you in a tizzy and let PDPL explode your guts. And did we mention that drinking is heavily encouraged? Plenty of whiskey, beer and wine at the theatre!
