Plucking her custom-built charango, Latin folk-rocker Gina Chavez has been heralded the Ani Difranco of Latin music. Percussive guitar playing sets the mood for lyrical scenery, but it's the folkloric "Embrujo" of Chavez's voice that sears the memory. Gina has represented Austin as an official Cultural Ambassador to our sister city of Oita, Japan. She has appeared at SXSW, Folk Alliance, Pachanga Fest, and has been featured on NPR and KUT.

10:00 pm The Lennings
http://lenningsland.com
Vocally and melodically, The Lennings blur the line between Austin’s bickering Americana and indie pop scenes. The band’s sound has bounced between their acoustic and electric sides (2007′s “Big Beige Car” and 2009′s “Geographic Tongue” respectively); however, their current instrumentation and style have been garnering much attention, both foreign and domestic. Blending acoustic guitar and banjo with a particularly hard-hitting rhythm section, a wall of atmospheric noise, and vocals ranging from lullaby to blaring, The Lennings’ songs tend to focus on finding beauty and absurdity in the mundane and inanimate.
All shows are FREE on the beautiful rooftop deck of 219 West, located on West 6th Street next to the former Momo’s and Katz Deli.
