Alex Grant’s poems have received the Oscar Arnold Young Award (Best NC Poetry Collection), The Randall Jarrell Prize, The Pavel Srut Poetry Fellowship, and the Kakalak Poetry Prize. A six-time Pushcart Prize and Best of the Web nominee, he has published five poetry collections, including The Poems of Wing Lei (Wind Publications, 2012) and The Circus Poems (2010). His poems have appeared in Best New Poets, The Missouri Review, Connecticut Review, Arts & Letters, and dozens of other national venues. A 2012 NC Poet Laureate nominee, he lives in Chapel Hill with his wife, his dangling participles, and his Celtic fondness for excess.
Laurie Patton is the Dean of Arts and Sciences at Duke University. She received a BA from Harvard University and a PhD from The University of Chicago in the history of religions. Dean Patton is an accomplished scholar and the author or editor of eight books and fifty articles on South Asian history, culture, and religion. She has published two books of poetry: Fire’s Goal: Poems from a Hindu Year (2003) and Angel’s Task: Poems in Biblical Time (Barrytown/Station Hill Press, 2011), and her poetry has appeared in Nimrod International, CALYX, and the new Women's Torah Commentary.
An informal get-together before the reading will begin around 6:00 pm at the Chapel Hill Foster’s, next door to Flyleaf Books. Please join us for an hour of conversation.
Featured readers will each read for approximately 20 minutes and, after a short break for the readers to sign books, there will be an open mic. Please sign up to read no later than 7 pm.
