Taken! Speaker Bios: Carmen Chang joined NEA in 2012 as a Special Senior Advisor focused on NEA's portfolio of companies based in, or conducting business in, China. She recently retired as a Partner at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati (WSGR), where she specialized in corporate and securities law and led the firm's China practice. Carmen's practice at WSGR focused on representing public and private technology companies and financial institutions in public offerings, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, financings and other types of transactions in the U.S. and abroad. Among many other transactions, she represented SMIC in its acquisition of Motorola's manufacturing operation in Tientsin, the first M&A transaction in China after the People's Republic of China put its M&A rules in place; the IPOs of SMIC, Spreadtrum, and other companies; and numerous mergers and acquisitions and joint ventures. In addition to her senior advisory role with NEA, Carmen is a fellow for the Arthur and Toni Rembe Rock Center for Corporate Governance, a joint initiative of Stanford Law School and the Stanford Graduate School of Business. She also serves on the board of directors of AAC Technologies Holdings, Inc., one of the world's foremost vertically integrated manufacturers of miniature components. George Hu is the Chief Operating Officer of Salesforce.com. He owns all major shared operational functions at salesforce.com, including information technology, employee success, facilities, and security, as well as the platform division, global marketing, strategic alliances, and corporate development. Hu joined salesforce.com in 2002 and has served in a variety of management roles including vice president of product marketing, senior vice president of applications, executive vice president of products, and chief marketing officer. Prior to joining salesforce.com, Hu held product management and strategic consulting roles at North Point Communications and Boston Consulting Group. He received a bachelor's degree in economics from Harvard College and a master's degree in business administration from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Hu was named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in 2010. David Ku is a corporate vice president in the Online Services Division, responsible for Microsoft Advertising R&D. David joined Microsoft in 2010. Prior to joining Microsoft, David was the Senior Vice President of Advertising Products at Yahoo!, responsible for all advertising products and technology across search and display, video and mobile advertising. David spearheaded the development of Yahoo’s Display advertising platforms (APT and RMX), and their deployment within Yahoo! and adoption by the Newspaper Consortium. He was responsible for the Sponsored Search, Marketplace, Data systems, and Applications efforts in the development of the new Yahoo! Search advertising platform (Panama). The advertising group under David created new Audience and Contextual targeting products, as well as new Customer Ad experiences, formats, and solutions. He originally joined Yahoo! in 2002 and was in the core team driving the build-out and acquisition of Web search and advertising capabilities across Yahoo!, including Inktomi, Altavista, Overture and FAST. Furthermore, he has led the technology groups in consumer search experience, social media including Yahoo! Answers and Flickr, vertical and multimedia search platform and destinations, search metrics and analytics, and mobile search. Prior to Yahoo! David worked in CAD/EDA and Venture firms in various technical and leadership roles. He received his masters and doctorate in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University and a dual B.S. in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering from the University of Utah. David holds patents in Search, Personalization, and Advertising, has authored a book, and published in numerous journals and conference proceedings in Electronic Design and VLSI Automation. Outside of work, David enjoys spending time in coffee shops, going to the gym, traveling and reading, and spending time with his wife and two kids. He serves on the board and volunteers for non-profit high-tech and entrepreneur organizations. Eric S. Yuan is Founder and CEO of Zoom Video Communications, Incwww.zoom.us) Prior to that, Eric is corporate vice president of engineering at Cisco Systems responsible for collaboration software development. He was one of the founding engineers of WebEx and developed the first several generations of WebEx products. Founded in 1996, WebEx executed a high successful IPO in Nasdaq and was subsequently acquired by Cisco in 2007 for US$3.2 billion, when Mr. Yuan was VP of Engineering who led the product development of the $500 million of annual revenue of products. Mr. Yuan is a graduate of the Stanford Executive Program and holds 8 patents, plus a dozen pending patents in the pipeline. Charles Fan is a Senior Vice President at VMware in strategic R&D. Charles and his team are looking into the fundamental shifts happening in technologies and customer needs, and how these disruptive changes will impact the data management methodologies in the cloud. Prior to this role, Charles was the founder and leader of both the VMware China R&D Center, and the EMC China Center of Excellence. Today, Over 1500 engineers work in those R&D Centers, and both centers are among the most respected R&D groups in China. Prior to the China roles, Charles was a co-founder and CTO of Rainfinity, which was acquired by EMC in 2005. He led the creation of Rainfinity's industry leading file virtualization and high availability products. Charles has also held positions at Intel Corporation, Goldman Sachs, and Cheyenne Software. He is an expert in distributed systems and network storage technologies, and received his Ph.D. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology, and his B.E. in Electrical Engineering from the Cooper Union.
