We have a secret: We are planning a canoe show on Barton Creek under the (almost) full moon on Thursday August 2st. (Shhhh! Don't tell anyone I told ya, but this will involve a bunch of shenanigans) Save the date and join us in your boat!
Here are the details:
WHERE:
• The best view of the show will be from a boat in the water. You can also watch the show from the bridge or the shore, but a lot of sight lines from the shore are obstructed. (Some stuff won't be visible from the bridge).
• This map shows the pedestrian bridge where we will be performing (over Barton Creek, not over the main lake).
http://goo.gl/maps/r0l6C The eastern arrow indicates the pedestrian bridge where we will be performing. (The western arrow indicates the location of Zilker Boat Rentals).
RENTING A BOAT:
• You can rent a boat from Zilker Boat rentals, 2101 Andrew Zilker Rd, 78704. They are staying open late for this show. Please return your boat immediately after the show.
• If all of you try to rent a boat at Zilker boat rentals at the last minute, it's not going to work out very well. I recommend you rent your boat early, paddle around the lake a bit, and then head back up the creek to meet us for the show.
• If you are renting a boat, you need to bring a small light (like a bike light) so that your boat can be seen when it is on the water. (Zilker might not rent you a boat if you don't have a light for it).
BRINGING YOUR OWN BOAT:
• If you own your own boat, you may want to consider launching across the lake at the Texas Rowing Center or another location. We expect the shore at Zilker Boat Rentals to be quite congested. Please bring life jackets and other legally required items.
DONATIONS:
• This show is free, but it costs us a fair amount to put on. We will have donation buckets at the show. If you like what you see, please consider giving a $10 donation.
PARKING:
• Ride your bike. This is a good guideline for life.
• Zillker Hillside Theater is also going on Thursday night, parking will cost money and will be tight. You will probably have better luck parking at the back side of the Springs or the baseball fields and walking over. Or park on Toomey Rd and walk in.
PARK RULES AND STUFF:
• Please - no alcohol, no glass containers, no styrofoam. It isn't that kind of show, we really want everyone to be safe, and park and water way rules prohibit it. They also prohibit swimming, inner-tubing and blocking the path.
