We've got a GREAT lineup coming up! The next Baltimore Tech Parents event is Tuesday, Aug. 14th, from 6 pm to 8 pm, at the Heavy Seas Alehouse in downtown Baltimore.

The guest speakers are:

Burck Smith, CEO and founder of Straighterline, a Baltimore tech startup that's offering super-low-cost online college courses, giving cash-strapped college students an alternative way to cut at least part of their college costs. A little about Burck from his website: Ten years before launching StraighterLine in 2009, he co-founded SMARTHINKING, the largest online tutoring provider for schools and colleges. Burck has written chapters for two books on education policy for the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) and is working on a third. He is a member of the American Enterprise Institute's Higher Education Working Group.

Susan Magsamen is the founder of Curiosityville, a Baltimore County-based startup that's focused on personalized learning for kids ages 3 to 8. More about Susan from her bio: Susan is president of the board of L-rn (Learning Resource Network), a new online resource for parents, educators, and child-service providers, and president of the Ultimate Block Party, a national community-based movement to bring the science of play and learning to life. She is also the director of interdisciplinary partnerships at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Brain Science Institute, and serves on a number of boards for non-profit organizations. Susan founded FamilyStories, a collection of resources for families, and Curiosity Kits, a supplemental learning company creating multi-sensory learning activities for children.
