Hendzel + Hunt 24 hr design challenge 2012.
EXTENDED DEADLINE TILL THE 27TH OF JULY!
>>>>>>CALL OUT<<<<<<<
Dear all,
Hendzel + Hunt is glad to announce a new 24h Design Challenge to be held at our studio on Friday the 10th of August to the 11th of August.
We would like to get you involved, and we are currently accepting applications from all types of creatives.
THE BIG REVEAL OF THE CHALLENGE WILL BE ON THE 11TH AT 8.30PM - ALL WELCOME.
The Challenge
The idea for the Challenge stems from our MADE IN PECKHAM range of furniture. The range is built with sustainability, up-cycling and localism in mind and all the materials used are sourced locally.
Hendzel + Hunt's 24hr design challenge has been devised as a platform from which, through the narrative of a design and make exercise will encourage discourse and experimentation.
We believe that using recovered material is not simply a practical and sustainable necessity. Materials and objects also hold their own stories, they belong to people and places, they come from specific cultural environments and processes.
These valuable stimuli can provide starting points, references and ideas for the design of contemporary objects.
On this basis we are selecting a group of designers to participate in a 24 hour design and make project, based on the manufacturing heritage of our local area of Peckham, South London.
Last Year's 24hr Challenge was filmed by BAFTA nominated short film director Samuel Abrahams and Ana Garcia. The documentary premiered alongside the objects at Clerkenwell Design Week 24th-26th May 2011.

The Team
The entrants will be split into five teams who will be given the brief on the night.
They will have to firstly source waste material, suitable for up-cycling, from the local area and then inspired by a brief that will be disclosed at the start of the challenge will produce a collection of one off objects to be showcased at London Design week.
Applicants
We are looking for all kind of makers, Designers, Artists, Architects, Sculptors, and any like minded individuals with a special interest in craft and making.
Last year we had mechanical engineers, specialists in fluid dynamics, furniture makers and product and industrial designers amongst others.
This is a collaborative project, where we aim for you to take your practice to new grounds, meet interesting people and above all to help establish a platform for designer/makers to showcase their talents and skills.
Applicants should send their CV, link to their work or 5 images, and answer the following question in single paragraph.
What can your current practice bring to the 24h Design Challenge?
Please send it to:

All applications should reach us by the 27th of July.
Good Luck,
Hendzel + Hunt
