About Viktor Luna
Hello! My name is Viktor Luna, a recent contestant and finalist on Project Runway Season 9.
I was born in Guadalajara, Mexico and raised in Los Angeles. At a young age my mother taught me the foundation of how to create a garment. Ever since, my interest in the fashion world has increased. I have always had the desire to design, and therefore decided to move to New York City where I would pursue an education in fashion. I enrolled in the Fashion Institute of Technology and took numerous courses for a year. Going forward, I was given the opportunity to intern at Zero Maria Cornejo where I obtained most of my design knowledge and production. Following my internship, I was inspired to start my own clothing line. Just like many others, I continue to face an everyday battle of maintaing a continuous collection on a very small budget. However, my determination and devotion to what I do strengthens my attitude and self confidence.
Many of my friends encouraged me to audition for Project Runway. I did not think I was quite at the level to compete on live television. At the same time I was trying to put the idea of Project Runway out of my head, I couldn't help but wonder what the experience would be like. Randomly seeing the casting call on Facebook made me think about it even harder: Maybe it's fate. Anyway, it's only a show...it can't hurt me; it might be a great experience. I continued to put the idea off for as long as I could and oddly enough, on the exact day of the casting, I made an impulsive final decision. I grabbed my garment bag filled with all my previous work and ran out the door!
Arriving at the show, I was full of nerves. The first round was probably the most nerve wracking experience of my life. Surely enough, I passed round one and was more than ready to conquer my battles in round two. Here, I was able to show the judges more about who I am and what kind of work I do. Nearing the end of season 9, I was cast as one of the finalists.
Project Runway is known to be a torturous journey, but during my time there I was in heaven. I loved spending my time in the workroom with the other creative contestants as well as doing what I love! It gave me the opportunity to challenge myself to do bigger and more complex things while having the luxury to receive critiques from experts in the fashion industry. The most touching aspect was the kind, but honest, responses that I received about my designs. That was the key factor that encouraged me to proudly present my creations to millions of fans and fashionistas. I was given the opportunity to launch my collection during the Mercedes-Benz fashion week. Taking part in that milestone was an unforgettable experience and a dream come true. My experience at Project Runway was absolutely incredible, and I have no regrets!
The most gratifying aspect of being a designer is watching all of my hard work and finished products come to life as clients, celebrities, and supportive fans invest in some of my pieces and wear them! I am very driven and take all my designing very seriously. Nothing makes me happier than to see people enjoying my designs as much as I do.
The Viktor Luna brand was founded in 2008 and has been gradually developing into great success with the help of Project Runway, fans, supporters, family, and friends!

Complete my Spring/Summer 2013 collection. This will be my most recent project, and I am very excited to embark on this new journey. I will be taking a huge leap from my previous work and concentrating more with luxury fabrics, crystals, embellishments, colors, leather, accessories, prints, etc. I will be applying my special techniques in order to enhance my creations. I will strive to make this collection gorgeous to the eye.
Follow through with my inspirations. I have been inspired by many aspects throughout life; whether it be through my recent travels to Miami, Mexico City, Los Angeles, and New York or auditioning for Project Runway, I always seem to keep dreaming! Now that summer is here, we all spend more time outside and have the ability to express ourselves, and that is why I want to make my Spring/Summer 2013 collection the best one yet! I envision a muse for this collection to be an edgy sophisticated Tilda Swinton.
