Jack Fischer Gallery would like to announce the opening of Solo, an exhibition featuring new works by fiber artist Lauren DiCioccio. DiCioccio is best known for her works that painstakingly replicate in hand stitching and embroidery a variety of obsolescing items from our visual and material culture. In bridal organza, cotton linen, felt, and thread, she creates semblances both of quotidian objects that are quickly used and disposed of, like plastic bags and bottles, as well as items of tactile nostalgia that are now increasingly less a part of the every day: newspapers, paper money, magazines, phonebooks. In some cases, she augments the surfaces of these objects, as in the case of her cross-stitched books that obscure all or most of the text originally displayed.
In her second solo show at Jack Fischer Gallery, the artist will be presenting a variety of such work including new soft, stuffed sculptures. She will be showing simultaneously at Catherine Clark Gallery’s Summer Group Exhibitions: Recology Alumni. The show will feature the work of artists who have participated at the Recology Artist-in-Residence Program in San Francisco, and runs from July 21st through August 25th.
Lauren DiCioccio holds a B.F.A. from Colgate University. She has exhibited widely in the Bay Area and California, including at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in 2011, as well as around the country.
Solo will run from August 2nd through September 8th, with an opening reception for the artist to be held on Saturday August 11th from 3:00 to 5:00.
