Hi, we are Design Picnic and we want to invite you to our very special inaugural event. We are preparing a fun and exciting evening of a design film screening, picnic, panel discussion and musical performance, all at the beautiful Los Angeles State Historic Park on Sat, August 18th. Bring your blankets, lawn chairs, grab your friends and some snacks and come enjoy the show! About the Documentary Design & Thinking is a documentary exploring the impact design thinking has on our society. Design thinking is a set of methods and processes used for solving wicked problems (ill-defined, complex problems with no clear solutions) using empathy-driven research, ideation and prototyping. Design thinking has been used increasingly in the creative and design field to generate innovative solutions, and its use is starting to spread to other industries from business, engineering, government and non-profit sectors. Design thinking is incorporated into higher education as well, most notably at Stanford's d.school. The film explores the topic through conversations with thought-leaders and creators from many different disciplines. See the film's website for the list of individuals featured in the film. This is the first time the film is shown in SoCal outside of the Newport Beach Film Festival. So don't miss this chance! As working design professionals, we knew it had to be shared with the greater community in LA. We believe it's a topic worthy of attention and discussion. About the Panel We will have a panel discussion following the screening. We are gathering a diverse group of thought-leaders in architecture, urban planning, interaction design, product design and sustainability. Stay tuned for the confirmed list of panelists later. Our Partners The event is done as a collaboration between Design Picnic, IxDA LA, LA Game Space and other organizations that are shaping the ways we work and solve problems. We also thank California State Parks for providing us with the venue. We are grateful for their support.
