Join us August 30th for an overview of the HIT challenges in the next five years. As EHRs become more widespread, technology becomes more mobile and new sources of data are added, how does IT foster research and innovation while balancing operational concerns and support the business through a changing landscape? Rather than viewing the landscape as a single challenge, HIT organizations will need to facilitate a portfolio of diverse initiatives.
Opinder Bawa, CTO of UCSF will give an overview of the technology landscape at UCSF. As a large health sciences campus, he has unique view of the challenges and opportunities of the next five years. Josh Newman, MD, Director Healthcare Strategy, Salesforce; Bre Jackson, CIO, Calhipso and Michael Keyoung, MD, Phd. VC Burrill Health will join him for a panel discussion of the various partner opportunities.

Opinder is the Chief Technology Officer for UCSF, Executive Director of Information Technology Services and Director of Information Services Unit in the School Of Medicine.
Prior to his role with UCSF, he held other leadership roles, including at Boston City Hospital and Medical Center as their Chief Technology Officer. There he was instrumental in bringing innovative and effective technical solutions to the institution, focused on improving patient care, education and administrative business processes. Prior to that, he was the CTO and Sr. Vice President of Global Services at The SCO Group where he led their software product lines and customer services.
With his background in startups and large corporations, Opinder is well known in the hi-tech industry for building high quality technology teams, providing meaningful vision and creation of industry-wide recognized products. Over his career he has also developed award winning service organizations known for their innovation, domain expertise and customer satisfaction. He has nearly 20 years of experience in business solutions, client engagement, information technology, consultative approaches and business development. He is often called upon for keynote and guest addresses at industry events most recently at Breakfast with Innovative CIOs in Silicon Valley.
Opinder's tenure includes executive and staff roles at Netro Corporation, Acta Technology, 3Com, Citibank, Toshiba, IBM and Metaphor. Opinder also serves on boards of startup technology corporations and as an early stage angel investor.
Opinder holds a bachelor's degree in Computer Science from City University of New York and a master's degree in Business and Information Technology from University of Phoenix.

Joshua Newman
Dr. Joshua Newman is Director of Product Management and Health Strategy at Salesforce.com where he builds and promotes clinical and research health applications, develops partner and customer adoption, and enables health applications for non-profit organizations through the Salesforce Foundation. Immediately prior to his work at Salesforce, he worked as a practicing physician and Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at UCLA with a research focus on health information technology.
Dr. Newman has a 15-year history in Health IT. He has designed, built, and managed numerous web applications including those for medical residency administration, billing, and clinical care; to promote collaboration between physicians; and to ease the adoption of electronic medical records systems.
Dr. Newman received his MD from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and completed his residency in Family Medicine at the Advocate Illinois Masonic/UIC program. He completed a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program, a postgraduate fellowship at UCLA, and received an MSHS degree in Health Services.
S. Bre Jackson
S. Bre Jackson is the Chief Information Officer for the California Health Information Partnership & Services Organization (CalHIPSO), responsible for leading the companyâs EHR and Health Information Technology operations and services. She has twenty-two years of experience in the Technology Information field where she has held various key roles in large healthcare organizations, including CIO, Vice President of Healthcare Services, Director of Information Technology, Director of Operations, and Privacy and Security Officer.
Ms. Jackson has led projects assisting large physician organizations to improve market position, operations and financial results. Direct experience includes hospital and physician management, health IT, strategic planning, and mergers and operations improvement. She has managed the operation of multiple large physician groups, health IT integration for multiple provider organizations, and successfully conducted negotiations with third party payers, vendors, and other external agencies. She has also developed new business and venture initiatives.
Ms. Jackson is a leading authority on Health Information Technology and has consulted for private practices and large organizations, public health and health information exchange. Ms. Jackson provided support during the formation of the California Health Information Exchange Strategic Plan, the state of Californiaâs governance entity for Health Information, while working at Lumetra Healthcare Solutions. Before joining Lumetra Healthcare Solutions, Ms. Jackson worked at Sutter Connect where she was a physicianâs strategist, aligning HIT, medical group operations, practice management and later transitioning to the new business of a physician foundation model. She has also held senior roles in the military, consulting, and physician strategy markets.
Ms. Jackson earned a B.A. degree in Management from St. Maryâs College.
Michael Keyoung
Dr. Keyoung has more than 15 years of healthcare and life sciences experience through his role as scientist, surgeon, consultant and investor. At Burrill & Company, Dr. Keyoung is Managing Director in Venture Capital Group, portfolio manager of Burrillâs global public portfolio companies and heads Pan-Asia business. Dr. Keyoung serves on the boards of private biopharma companies and organizations in the U.S. and in Asia.
Previously, Dr. Keyoung was a co-founder of a life sciences healthcare investment partnership in New York and has advised leading life sciences venture capital firms, medical devices, pharma, and biotechnology companies. His previous clients leading companies such as Eli Lilly, Bausch & Lomb, Samsung Electronics, SK Corporation among others. Dr. Keyoung was a Howard Hughes Medical Institute fellow and received his clinical surgical training at University of California, San Francisco and biomedical fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Institute and Rockefeller University in New York. Dr. Keyoung performed preclinical drug discovery research for Aventis (now Sanofi-Aventis) and Merck while at Cornell and participated in cutting-edge translational clinical trials at leading academic centers.
As National Institute of Health-Medical Scientist Training Program scholarship recipient, Dr. Keyoung received his Medical Doctorate and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Neuroscience and Neurology from Cornell University Weill Medical College and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
