Meetup Times and Locations:
5:30am - Cornell Mine Trailhead Parking
Â
Â
Getting there: Palisades Parkway North or Bear Mountain Bridge West to the Bear Mountain Circle. Route 9W south 1.4 miles to parking area on left -- just after the second entrance to Bear Mountain Park.
Route description: 3.5 miles distance, 1100 feet elevation gain. We will take the Cornell Mine trail (blue) south until it ends. Then we turn right on the Ramapo-Dunderberg trail (red) and take it to the top of Bald Mountain. After enjoying the sun-risen views for a bit, we return the way we came. (If we're making great time, we may be able to descend through the ghost town Doodletown for a total of 5 miles.)
Pace & time: This is a short but strenuous hike -Â I expect it to take about 2+ hours.
