The problems we face, and the solutions we need in today’s world, require us to have a global lens and a global reach. The best education has always come from direct experiences, and with today’s new communication tools, we can now make direct, immediate, and meaningful global connections to inform local civic action.
But few educational institutions are taking advantage of these new, low-cost tools so students can learn directly with their peers around the world, and engage in global problem-solving. This project seeks to be a model for how it can be done.
We are looking for 8 young people who are not older than the age of 30 to teach them skills that would help them develop themselves & their local communities.
All selected Cairo participants will commit to 11 weeks of study, based on the reading list (approx 8 hours of reading), participation in the Making Compelling Videos training (8 hours), on-line discussions on Facebook (3-4 hours), and two live video conferences (3 hours).
As a result, students would learn how to work in cross-cultural teams, across languages, and share communication and social media skills so that a strong plan is developed, based on their needs.
Anyone applying to attend should be fluent in English and own a 3mp camera that can record videos. Also regular access to a PC (preferably a laptop) is needed so you can edit your videos.
Applicants who are active socially in the Not for Profit sector are highly preferred.
