It's summertime, and there's lots of new opportunities for living in and investing in sustainable community in the East Bay - including with longtime EBCOHO Supporting Member Group Kingfisher Cohousing and new kids on the block Wild and Radish about to close on site purchases, seeking investors and members, and rare rental opportunities at established communities like Swan's Market Cohousing in downtown Oakland. So many new members - and ongoing members who havenât yet stepped out into the light. Welcome, welcome! We're trying to alternate between Saturdays and Sundays so everyone has a chance to make one of these and get connected and identify the next steps on their path to community.
Hereâs a chance to see and be seen, ask all the questions you want and share a virtual tour of whatâs going on in the world of cooperative culture in the Bay Area including the latest openings and opportunities in our network of over 1700 people and participating communities.
Itâs the UNâs International Year of the Co-operative. Thereâs a LOT going on!
Cohousing, cooperatives, and ecovillages. Intentional communities and transition towns. Neighbors who want to get to know each other. Your natural building, permaculturing, off-the-grid soulmates. Collaborative coworking and hacker spaces. Community capital and affordability strategies. Openings for sale and rent in existing communities. Forming groups, and upcoming conferences; learn how to join, visit, or start a community. Yup, itâs all happening at the zoo!

From an Orientation last fall: Betsy and Raines were excellent facilitators - they shared a wealth of knowledge about the different communities and their styles, and wove in discussion that addressed the specific questions of each attendee. They did not hesitate to think creatively about solutions that met the constraints of attendees. (Member Gautam Agarwal, Nov. 13, 2011)
Doors open at 10:15 for setup and socializing. Program runs from 10:30-12:45 or so, including introductions, short talk on the types and differences of intentional communities in our area, followed by discussion, exercises, and general brain exchange on the things that most interest you. Raines Cohen, cohousing coach and community planner will facilitate, with some optional activities to follow. Members wanting to announce or share on openings stop by.
Light refreshments offered; we may go out to an optional lunch and visit to Pleasant Hill Cohousing's monthly open house (RSVP separately here) for those interested in carpooling or BART/Bikepooling.
The door fee of $10-$20 helps cover EBCOHO ongoing expenses. Bring a friend and save up to $5 each; supporting members are free. Your contribution is refunded if you become a supporting member on the spot. (Supporting members get a free Cohousing book, a free coaching session, and discounts on many of our events among other benefits.)
