How does online collaboration around industrial design effectively happen in an open source project?  What tools are being used and what methodologies need to be followed?  How can this process be extended post-product-launch so that a community can continue to be engaged through customization and personalization?  What online services are supporting these processes and how do they work?

These questions will be explored by Albert Chao @albertchao (architect and designer) and Ed Borden @edborden (evangelist at COSM) in the context of the #AirQualityEgg project.

The session will explore the evolution of the Air Quality Egg design, prototypes that were developed by the community, and how the final design aims to further community engagement by deepening connections beyond DATA to the physical design as well. The session will look at Eagle, Shapeways, Protomold, Makerbot, Thingiverse and more as tools to facilitate collaborative design. These concepts are applicable to any Internet of Things project or product and we look forward to not only talking about how they've been applied to this project, but potentially brainstorming as a group how they can be applied to others as well.
