Panel Description:
MG Siegler, former writer at Techcrunch, once wrote, “I will check my phone at dinner and you will deal with it.” The average American spends 5.35 hours a day on social networking sites. 30% of leisure time in the USA is spent on the internet. The advent of digital culture & emergence of new technologies has brought a dramatic shift in our behavior. The digital age was meant to empower us all but instead has tied many of us to our devices. Many of us are now guilty of falling asleep, iPhone in hand, or ignoring loved ones at dinner to check our phones. This fragmented behavior and loss of attention is cause for concern. Constant interruptions from gadgets and social network notifications are causing a change in our behavior, from long term strategic thinking to reactive diminutive thinking and short attention spans. We will examine these topics and explore the road back to empowerment using a diet of digital detox. Connecting could be as simple as being present.
