A Message from The Night Market
As you know, Night Market staff has been hard at work putting together a re-vamp of our event. As we proceeded to permit Night Market as a "community event"-- which would allow tented food booths, the application tripped further review of the event with the SJ Planning Department (typically we only work with the Special Events department). The Planning Department told us that thought events may be held at the site, events after sundown are not permitted! Any night time uses of the site would require us to obtain an additional permit that would cost thousands of dollars and require a minimum of 3.5 months to review.
We solicited help from two council district offices to create a work around, but in the end, the workaround proved unsuccessful. Because of the new requirements, we have decided to cancel the Night Market. The Night Market team is deeply sorry for any inconveniences this causes you.
We would like to thank all of of you who participated in this wonderful experiment. Almost 20,000 people attended the first four Night Markets -- which is amazing! We are working on a plan for the 2013 Night Market (May to September). We hope to see you next year!
Thank you,
The Night Market
