*What is this event supporting?*
The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA) is a world class sports organization that provides opportunities for athletes in the most exciting Olympic action sports. Developed to prepare U.S. athletes for national and international competition, the USSA provides structure for competitive skiing and snowboarding. From grassroots programs to governance of sport, management of rules, competitions and athletic rankings, the USSA oversees athletic pipelines for development in the sports. With a vision to make the USA the best in the world in Olympic skiing and snowboarding, the USSA provides leadership and direction for tens of thousands of young skiers and snowboarders who share an Olympic dream while maintaining a strong adherence to core values.
USSA athletes broke records in 2010 when they won an unprecedented 21 medals in the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver. While the next Winter Olympics isnt until 2014, now is a crucial time to raise awareness and funds to ensure our athletes are fully prepared to represent the USA in Sochi, Russia.
Unlike its competitor nations worldwide, the USSAs athletes do not receive any Federal funding. The USSAs athletes and programs are funded solely by the generosity of the public with a mix of private contributions (34%), corporate sponsorship (35%), membership fees (11%), Olympic Committee grants (9%) and endowment earnings (11%).
*Development Programs*
The USSA supports more than 30,000 members including 22,000 athletes (more than 50% are under 13) in more than 425 local USSA clubs, with athletes taking part in more than 5,000 U.S. competitions annually.
The USSA provides nationwide education for clubs, coaches, parents and officials as well as structure and management of rules, races and rankings.
The USSA annually invests in more than 200 elite athletes and provides development programming for thousands more. Coaches, trainers and staff are also supported by the USSA at the national team level every year (not just during Olympic years).
*Elite Teams*
The USSA invests more than $17.1 million annually directly into athletic programs.
It costs between $50,000 to $150,000 to provide training, coaching and competition costs for one athlete. These athletes train and compete 365 days a year.
The USSA has gained its international competitive edge with a best in the world sport science program, investing over $1.4 million annually to support athletes.
The USSA spends between $1 million and $2 million on an athlete over the course of their career.
The USSA represents more sports than any other Olympic sports organization, accounting for nearly 50% of the events in the Olympic Winter Games. Learn more.
*Note on Event Format*
Instead of a formal seated dinner, the Snow Ball is structured more like a cocktail party to give everyone an opportunity to meet and mingle with the elite Team athletes and each other without being limited to a particular table or group the entire night. Although there are no formal table assignments, there will be seating around the venue and plentiful passed hors d'oeuvres, an open bar, full food stations (equivalent to a full meal) and desserts served as well as entertainment and a short program later in the evening. Cocktail attire preferred.
