Learn about the promising businesses Acumen and the Association for Development of Pakistan both support in the developing world! And taste wine at the same time! Acumen Fund and ADP are non-profit venture philanthropy organizations that use entrepreneurial approaches to solve the problems of global poverty. Acumen seeks to prove that small amounts of philanthropic capital, combined with large doses of business acumen, can build thriving enterprises that serve vast numbers of the poor. The Association for the Development of Pakistan (ADP) supports small high-impact development projects in Pakistan. It organizes volunteers into small teams to run rigorous due diligence on promising development project proposals. If a project looks like it may have significant and scalable impact, ADP will taps its donor network to fund it. At the event, we'll have a flight of three kinds of wine at SNOB wine bar in Nob Hill. Misbah Naqvi, who is on Acumen's business development team and started with the fund in Pakistan managing portfolio investments, will speak about Acumen's funded companies in the region including drip irrigation, housing and hydroelectric development projects. Tarim Wasim, a Hellman and Friedman director who founded ADP, will also talk about his approach in finding, partnering and funding sustainable non-profits in Pakistan. He will speak about the impact ADP has had in the empowerment, health, energy, and education sectors as well as specific opportunities how volunteers can get involved. The wine tasting costs $15 if you pre-order, ($5 of which goes to Acumen Fund as a tax-deductible donation, while the rest goes to cover the cost of wine). At the door, it will be $18. PLEASE PRE-ORDER TICKETS HERE TO GET $3 OFF: https://secure3.convio.net/acumen/site/Donation2?df_id=1780&1780.donation=form1 JOIN ACUMEN'S COMMUNITY HERE: http://community.acumenfund.org/events/san-francisco-for-acumen-wine If you're not there to taste wine, or you do not drink for religious reasons, RSVP here. You're still welcome to donate to either organization at the door.
