Why Business, Ethics, and Spirituality?
“We haven’t seen anything like this before: a really deep recession combined with a really extended period, maybe as much as eight years, all told, of highly elevated unemployment…Were about to see a big national experiment on stress.”
From the most recent issue of the Atlantic Monthly, quoting Heidi Shierholz of the Economic Policy Institute
When concern for our society is not present in the decisions made by powerful business people, the result is disasterous not only for our economy, but for our culture. The ripple effects of a huge downturn and high unemployment will be with us for a long time.
On the other hand, when successful business people are willing to work toward the common good, to use their positions of power and influence to innovate and help others, incredible things can happen.
This discussion will feature some people who are doing the latter, and will inspire those in attendance to see how no matter what you are doing, you can benefit yourself and others far more when you do business with values. Sri Sri will give some practical knowledge and tools for inculcating these values back into our business sector and society as a whole.
“Truth is the backbone of business, and ethics its limbs; these are both at stake today…In such a global scenario it becomes difficult for business to flourish. Understanding and re-evaluating our way of doing business is an earnest need of our times. To re-establish faith and trust in the economic system, we need an ethical and moral revival.”
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar from this year’s World Economic Forum
